Are you passionate about improving the lives of individuals severely affected by mental illness? Do you want to work alongside a dedicated group of colleagues who are all working towards the same goal? We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Support Worker to join a friendly and welcoming team, based in a dedicated mental health care home in Islington.
As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be joining a 15-bed registered care home, providing a safe space for people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties. There is a focus within the service on supporting people to develop/ regain the life skills needed to live more independently.
On a daily basis, you will work as part of a small team in a home from home environment where no two days will be the same. Enabling individuals to self-manage their personal and domestic resources and to undertake activities of daily living, you will work with your colleagues to jointly develop, review, monitor and adapt client-centred support and safety plans. You will monitor and report to senior staff on the effectiveness of support delivery and contribute to the protection of individuals from the risk of abuse and harm to self and others who access the services. A key part of your role will be encouraging those living with mental illness to recognise, understand and manage factors that affect their mental wellbeing and physical health, always working with other mental health professionals and the family/friends of the person being supported.
To succeed in this great new opportunity, you will have strong communication skills and an understanding of mental illness, either from a previous support role or from a voluntary position. Ideally you will have a QCF Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Care or Certificate in Community Mental Healthcare (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification, though the opportunity to study this with the support of the service is also available. Crucially, being a Support Worker isn’t all about qualifications, if you have a passion for making a difference, then the training and support that you need can be provided.
This is a permanent contract, working full time 35 hours per week across a rota which includes evenings and weekends. Additional allowances such as unsocial hours pay of 86p more per hour and bank holiday pay of time and a half are also available.
